Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take insurance? What's your fee?
I’m not an in-network provider with any insurance companies. If your insurance covers out-of-network benefits, you can generally be reimbursed by your insurance company for my services. I'm happy to speak with you individually about my fee.
What should I expect on my first visit?
I schedule initial sessions with new patients for 60 minutes because a thorough assessment and understanding of what brings you into my office provides the strongest foundation on which we can work to achieve your goals.
How often will we meet?
The answer to this depends on each individual, their reason for seeking treatment, and my assessment of their needs. Some patients come to see me weekly, others monthly, and, for a few, quarterly visits are sufficient to maintain the gains we’ve achieved through our work.
Are you Board Certified?
Yes. I am Board Certified in both General Adult Psychiatry and Psychiatry of the Medically Ill. That’s a lot of test-taking!
Should I see a psychiatrist, a psychologist or a social worker?
Good question. Each of these professionals bring unique expertise to the treatment of mental health problems. Of the three, psychiatrists (that's me) are the only ones able to provide both psychotherapy and to prescribe medication. If you are considering medication to help your particular problem, it is probably advisable to see a psychiatrist.
I already have a therapist. Can I see you to help me decide if medication is right for me?
Absolutely. I work with many patients who already have a therapist whom they see weekly. When indicated, and with your permission, I am happy to speak with your therapist about your treatment.
